Acting as 19th Century reporters, students may create a studio produced newscast of plantation life. After reading the documents in the Plantation Letters, students may be able to report the following:
- Deaths of individuals on the plantations
- causes, symptoms, treatment provided
- Status of the Plantation
- what crops are doing bad, what ones are not
- causes of bad crops
- what actions are being taken by the plantation owner
- how is the family
- Personal Lives
- has anyone taken any trips (where, what purposes, how)
- has anyone been married (to whom, where)
- newborns?
- Weather
- is there a drought?
- is it hot?
- how is this affecting the crops and lives of those on the plantation?
Their newscast will then be posted online.
